Medical Centre

The Medical Centre RAF Shawbury

Our aim is to provide the highest possible standard of health care within the limits of available resources.

The Medical Centre RAF Shawbury can be found between the CATCS building and the back of the Officers Mess on the road into camp. It is open during normal working hours Monday to Friday and a duty doctor is available at all other times.

The aim of this electronic booklet is to provide information about the Primary Health Care services that are available to the serving personnel of all units here at RAF Shawbury and their families on camp.

Doctors

RAF Shawbury is staffed by three doctors, a Unit Medical Uniformed Officer, Civilian Medical Practitioner and a Senior Medical Officer. During their occasional absence, other civilian doctors are locally employed. However, it may not always be possible to book an appointment with the doctor of your choice.

Practice Manager

The Practice Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Medical Centre and all matters relating to the Medical Centre staff. If you have any queries or complaints please do not hesitate to contact the Practice Manager either in person, or by ringing Ext 7429.

Practice Nurse

The Practice Nurse, a Registered General Nurse trained in many aspects of Primary Health Care and Occupational Medicine, carries out clinical treatments and assists the doctors in the running of specialist clinics such as Asthma, Hypertension and Minor Operations. Telephone Reception to make an appointment.

Medical Administration Staff

Most of our remaining team comprises RAF Medical Administrators and Medical Assistants, who deal with all aspects of Primary Health Care, general administration, medical stores and the dispensary. They also deal with personal medical records, arrangements for outpatient appointments, medicals and general medical administration. They are also qualified in first aid and in some cases trained to paramedic equivalent standard. .

Health and Safety

For health and safety reasons some areas of the Medical Centre are out of bounds to patients unless accompanied by a member of the medical staff. We have a duty of care to ensure that all our patients are not put at risk whilst visiting the Medical Centre.

Please take extra care of your young children in the waiting area and do not leave them unattended at any time.
