On-Station Facilities
Refuse Collection
Shropshire Council collect refuse from the Families Quarters on Fridays.
Recycling
- Aluminum (Cans) Bottle - Situated in the main car park near Elephant and Castle Public House in Shawbury Village.
- Paper Bank - Situated near St Mary's School.
- Dog Waste Bins - Situated (3 bins) main footpath to main gate near the Station golf course and near St Mary's School on footpath to Dawson's Rough.
- General Bits & Bobs - Materials, paper, card or craft items, toys, equipment suitable for children and young people would be useful for community groups who meet on Station e.g. Mom's and Tots, Squirrels Early Years, Craft Group, Youth Club, Coffee Shop Play Area. Contact CDW Ext 7127.
- Refuse Collection - Recycling boxes can be found at the Elephant and Castle pub in the village car park, along with general household waste bins for collection by Shropshire County Council.
Post
The post box is situated by the main gates next to the Guardroom.
The Hair Shop

Community Support
As part of the Services' commitment to personnel and their families, the RAF employs Community Development Workers (CDWs), whose task is to ensure that Service personnel and their families have access to all the support to which they are entitled to at Local Authority level. CDWs also help the RAF to promote a strong sense of community and general well being. The RAF Shawbury CDW is based in Station Headquarters and can be contacted on Ext 7213.
HIVE Information Centre
The HIVE Information Officer can provide information on a variety of subjects including childcare, schools, quarters, job vacancies and local information. The HIVE is open Mon to Fri 0900 - 1400 hrs. The Information Officer can be contacted on 7206 or E-mail mailto:shawbury@hivegb.co.uk
Wace Morgan Solicitors
Provide a free clinic on Tuesdays 1100 - 1300 at the HIVE. Wace Morgan Solicitors are part of the Forces' Law Legal Network. Contact the HIVE on Ext 7206 for an appointment.
The Coffee Shop
The Coffee Shop offers snacks and beverages such as toasted sandwiches, cooked breakfast, cakes, rolls, coffee, tea and soft drinks, at very reasonable prices. Open Monday to Thursday 0800 - 1500 hrs and Friday 0800 - 1400 hrs. Further information can be obtained by calling Ext 7164.
Mums and Tots Group
Mums and Tots welcomes anyone with a baby or pre-school toddler to entertain! The cost is only £1.00 per week. Open Tuesday 10.00am - 12.00pm in the Station Church. For further information contact Cheryl at the HIVE Ext 7206.
Contact House
RAF Shawbury's Contact house is a fully furnished Family Quarter that has been made available as a welfare facility to service single parents with contact rights to their children.
The contact house will sleep up to 5 adults and has a cot for young children. It also has a Television, Washing machine and a BBQ in the back garden. The house is also available to hire by service personnel for any reason such as visiting relatives or as a holiday home etc. Costs are £20.00 per night . Bookings can be made via Sgt Andy Deakin on 01939 250351 Extn 7439.
RAF Shawbury Squirrels Early Years
We offer places for both Service and Civilian children and welcome informal visits by parents who would like to see what facilities we offer. We are Situated at the opposite end of the building to the Junior Ranks' Mess.
RAF Shawbury Youth Club
The Youth Club meet on a Tuesday evening between 6.15pm - 7.45pm and is open to all those aged 8 to 11 years. They are located next door to the Trainee's facilities. Subs are £1 per week to cover running costs. The RAF Shawbury Youth Club is affiliated to the Shropshire Youth Association. For more details contact FS Dave Diable on ext 7061 or 7422.
The Firmin Club
The Firmin Club (previously The Three Lions Club) is open to the whole of the community including families. It is available to hire for private events. Opening time Sat - Thurs 1900 - 2300, Fri 1700 - 2300. Contact the Chief Clerk on ext 7230.
SSAFA.(Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association.)
The role of SSAFA Forces Help Personal Support and Social Work Service at RAF Shawbury is to offer an all-embracing welfare service to members of the Armed Forces and their families. (This service is also available to any student at RAF Shawbury). We are an independent organisation working outside the Chain of Command allowing us to remain impartial. The service is Confidential and can be tailored to your individual needs and circumstances. SSAFA Offers help with any issue causing you or your family concern or anxiety, including the following:
- Marital/Relationship Difficulties
- Separation
- Depression
- Stress and Anxiety
- Preferential Treatment
- Bereavement/Loss
- Special Needs
- Housing Issues
