Visual Targets
In addition to the electronic targets provided by RAF Spadeadam there are also many visual targets. This includes dummy tanks, various aircraft and a variety of other mock missile systems.
None of the systems are active but they do provide a realistic visual cue from the air allowing aircrew to identify targets and threats from the air.
Spadeadam actually makes many of its own targets, keeping abreast of current threats.
Some targets used are actually inflatable. This allows them to be rapidly deployed around the UK and overseas whilst still providing a realistic target from the air.
Spadeadam also has it's own dummy airfield complete with aircraft.
