Welcome to RAF Sports Board
The RAF Sports Board is responsible for policy, providing guidance to volunteer sporting committees throughout the RAF and also administers funding for sport. Sport in the RAF provides an inducement to physical fitness, and contributes to military effectiveness by encouraging personal qualities such as courage, resilience, esprit de corps and has a significant effect on morale. Sport is an integral part of the RAF ethos, and the fulfilment of the sporting expectations and activities of RAF personnel remains a significant retention and recruitment factor. The RAF Sports Board decides matters of sports policy and funding. The Board is served by a small Secretariat of 7 staff headed by Director Sports Board (DSB(RAF)) who exercises executive responsibility for the governance of all sport undertaken under the aegis of the RAF Sports Associations. The Secretariat provides governance and support to the Associations who, in conjunction with the physical education staff at units, deliver and promote sporting activity at all levels. Sources for non-public funding for sport include the RAF Central fund and RAF Sports Lottery.Any enquiries on sport in the RAF should in the first instance be directed to Steve Parlor, DSB1(RAF), in the RAFSB Secretariat on sportsboard-dsb1@halton.raf.mod.uk.
