Secure Future For RAF Tennis

RAF Tennis Centre 'The Outlook for tennis in the RAF has never been brighter after the RAF Central Fund and RAF Sports Lottery took the opportunity to buy the tennis centre near Halton and, by doing so, secured the long-term future of the RAF's Home for Tennis. Chairman of the RAF Lawn Tennis Association, Air Commodore Paul Hughesdon said: "This is fantastic news for everyone in the RAF who loves to play or watch tennis, or just enjoys the occasional knock-around. The Halton Tennis Centre has been the spiritual home of RAF tennis since 1929, but now it has been purchased by the Central Fund and RAF Sports Lottery, its future has been secured for all time. It also means we can place our joint management of the centre - with Halton Village Tennis Club - on a more formal and mutally beneficial footing." Nestled among mature trees at the end of a quiet countryt lane near RAF Halton, the Centre's facilities include 10 outdoor courts and three indoor courts, plus a bar and changing facilities. "We use the facilities at the tennis centre extensively for the annual programme of competitive tournaments and matches involving RAF personnel are played at the centre every summer - but it is also available for all RAF personnel to use throughout the year." The season culminates with the RAF Championships and Inter Services. "All RAF personnel are welcome to use the facilities. Station Officers-in-charge-of Tennis have all the details," Air Commodore Hughesdon said.
