Royal Air Force Representative Sports Colours

Qualification

1.  Personnel may qualify for the Royal Air Force Representative Sports Colour after representing the Royal Air Force in the annual Senior Inter-Service Championships, authorized by the Royal Air Force Sports Board, against the Royal Navy and/or Army.

RAF Representative Sports Colour Certificate

2. The Royal Air Force Representative Sports Colour Certificate may be applied for by Sports Associations from the RAF Sports Board. Applications should be submitted with rank, name, initials and gender, together with sport and or discipline(s) and year of representation. The Sports Colour Certificate was approved by the Chief of the Air Staff in May 2006 and applications for Certificates prior to this date will not be considered.  Personnel representing the Royal Air Force Veteran and Junior teams also qualify for a "Veteran" or "Junior" Colour Certificate, which has been approved by the Director of the RAF Sports Board, and is valid from May 2007.

RAF Representative Sports Tie

3. The RAF Representative sports tie is for wear by male personnel who have represented the Royal Air Force in the annual Senior Inter-Service Championships authorized by the RAF Colours Tie Royal Air Force Sports Board, against the Royal Navy and/or Army. The cost of the Tie is £6.00.

4. Description. The Tie is of dark blue material background decorated with replicas of the RAF representative badge, approximately ½ " from wing tip to wing tip and placed at intervals of approximately 1½ " worked in Terylene. The design for the tie is a sealed pattern and registered against copy.

RAF Representative Sports Brooch

5. The RAF Representative Sports Brooch is for wear by female personnel who have represented the Royal Air Force in the annual Senior Inter-Service Championships authorized RAF Sports Brooch by the Royal Air Force Sports Board, against the     Royal Navy and/or Army.

6. Description. The Brooch is a (Hallmarked) Sterling Silver Eagle and  Crown approximately 2” from wing tip to wing tip. The cost of the Brooch is £6.00. 

7. Authority to Purchase. Authority to purchase the tie and brooch will be given by the RAF Sports Board, Room 43, Kermode Hall, RAF Halton, Aylesbury, Bucks, HP22 5PG. The tie and brooch can only be purchased from the RAF Sports Board, and all applications for the tie must state present rank, (or rank on leaving the Service), initials, name, address, sport and year of representation. They must produce proof of eligibility, usually in the form of a certificate confirming their entitlement obtained from the relevant Sports Association.

RAF Representative Blazer and Badge

8. Description. The RAF Representative blazer, is single breasted, made of all wool flannel of a dark blue shade, twelve and a half ounces in weight, with three patch pockets and three large buttons on the front of the blazer, and three small buttons on each cuff. The buttons are identical with those worn on No 5 dress jacket (officers) i.e. gilt domed with mounted eagle and crown. The RAF Representative badge, consisting of an eagle and crown worked in silk, is worn on the breast pocket. 

9. Qualification for Wearing

a. Only personnel who have represented the Royal Air Force (including female members of the Royal Air Force) in the annual Senior Inter-Service Championships authorized by the Royal Air Force Sports Board against the Royal Navy and/or Army are eligible to wear the RAF Representative Blazer and Badge. To prevent its wear by unauthorized persons, every applicant for the badge is to obtain a certificate authorizing him/her to wear it, signed by the Secretary of the particular Association/Union or Club for which he/she has played. This certificate is to be sent to, or produced for inspection by, the firm from whom the blazer and/or badge is ordered, whenever such an order is placed regardless of whether the order is for first supply or replacement.

b. Participation in Inter-Service matches played under war emergency conditions i.e. from September 1939 to 1 May 1946, does not qualify personnel to wear the RAF Representative Blazer , Badge, Tie and Brooch, as such events do not rank in the annals. Qualifications restarted on the dates on which the various RAF Sports Associations/Unions and Clubs were reopened or instituted on a peace-time basis.

RAF General Blazer

10. Description. The RAF general blazer may be worn by any member of the Royal Air Force. The blazer is double breasted, made of all wool flannel of dark blue shade, twelve and a half ounces in weight, with three patch pockets, four large buttons on the front of the blazer, and three small buttons on each cuff. The buttons are chromium plated and indented with an eagle and crown.
