Welcome to RAF Swimming
Swimming is a major sport within the RAF, whether for keeping fit or for competitive events. The RAF Swimming Association is the coordinating authority for 4 aquatic disciplines:
| Swimming | Water Polo | Diving | Open Water Swimming |
Swimming is an ideal activity for improving and maintaining fitness, and a variety of basic training sessions are available here. Swimming a straight set of 40 lengths at constant pace in your lunch hour will not work you as hard as some of the sessions here that enhance both aerobic and anaerobic fitness.
The men’s water polo team are the reigning Inter-Service Champions, for 4 years in succession, and play in the GB National League. Ladies water polo is a new discipline since 2007. Both the men’s and ladies’ swimming teams came second in the Inter-Service championships in 2008, as did the men’s and ladies’ diving teams.
All of the RAF teams continue to improve in fitness, performance and ambition, and we are always looking for new members. We enjoy annual fixtures and events both in the UK and on overseas tours.
Most of our activities take place at RAF Cranwell, our designated Home for Sport. Swimming pools are also located at Waddington, Odiham, Cosford, Kinloss, Aldergrove, Henlow, Honington, Brize Norton, St Athan and Akrotiri.
Formed in 1926 the RAF Swimming Association is a District Level organisation, affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association through the East Midlands district.
