Welcome to RAF Syerston
Station Commander & Officer Commanding 2 Flying Training School
Gp Capt John Middleton OBE BA RAFR
RAF Syerston is the home of the Headquarters of the Royal Air Force 2 Flying Training School and Central Gliding School. It is located a few miles South of Newark on Trent in Nottinghamshire. Once home to Wg Cdr Guy Gibson, before he departed to form 617 (Dambusters) Sqn at RAF Scampton, RAF Syerston itself is now a satellite airfield of RAF College Cranwell, but operationally under the Command of the Air Cadet Organisation, with professional flying training assured by the Directorate of Flying Training within 22 (Training) Group. RAF Syerston is a busy RAF Station from an airspace perspective, with flying operations undertaken seven days a week and over 38000 movements a year.
