Welcome to RAF Table Tennis Association

Welcome to the RAFTTA Website

The Royal Air Force Table Tennis Association warmly welcomes you to this site. These remain very exciting times for RAF Table Tennis players. Whether you are currently serving, a veteran or indeed, visiting us for the first time, we hope you will find this site interesting, it will enthuse you to play and that you take a few minutes to look at our history.

Winning Passion

RAF Table Tennis has become one of the British Military's most successful sports. The RAF men's team has been unbeaten against the Royal Navy and British Army since 1984, despite the extremely high standard of competitors playing- this is a record 28 years unbeaten Inter-Service win, and we were awarded the prestigious Combined Services Sports Team of the Year award in 2007. The Men’s team performed outstandingly in March 2011 to retain the Inter-Service title, with players playing at the very top of their game, against international standard opposition from the Army, who year on year, continue to develop and improve their game. Our Ladies squad also shone and we are delighted the RAF have the current Doubles and Mixed Doubles champions. We have also enjoyed competing on the world arena, including Beijing in 2007 and Baltimore, USA, which allowed our players to experience world class table tennis and develop their game.

2011 was a good year for RAF Table Tennis. Our team participated in matches against the high quality British Police squad which further developed our players. The RAF Championships (Mar 11) saw many new players compete and special mention goes to WO Tony Stead, who was Runner-Up in the Men’s singles and Vetts event beaten by Sgt Mark Donoghue, who is now the RAF’s most successful singles player with 15 titles. Furthermore, Stead was presented the new Chris Moffatt Trophy for outstanding contribution to RAF Table Tennis. More recently our Festival of Tennis Tennis (November 11) welcomed 21 RAF players to participate in 2 fun paced, but challenging days, of ‘ping-pong’ – with each player playing over 100 ends of table tennis.

Looking forward, do you want to improve your ping-pong? If you are currently serving in the RAF and want to improve your table tennis ability, then we have a number of exciting options available to you, from local unit training sessions, our RAF Championship, to Festivals of Table Tennis (which caters for ALL abilities) to more formal coaching sessions. We are extremely grateful to Mr David Spencer Percival (DSP), who generously sponsors our exciting and ground-breaking DSP Academy, now named Ogden-Spencer Academy aimed at developing table tennis players within the RAF. We also assisted the Battle-Back initiative, to help those seriously injured personnel participate in sport with the help from Boeing who purchased 2 table tennis tables with accessories. These were presented to the Defence Rehabilitation Centre Headley Court in Dec 11.

Up and coming events for players 2012 include a variety of Ogden/Spencer Academy Training sessions and of course, matches. Look out for details of our RAF Championship, due in early Spring 12. Whatever, your standard, if you are in the RAF and would like to play, please contact one of the committee on the Contacts List to this site. We warmly welcome new players and are particularly keen see more females participating.

We hope you have found this site enjoyable; please do explore this site and hope you will visit us again soon.
