RAF Honington Voluntary Band
The RAF Honington Voluntary Band provides musical support to the Royal Air Force in East Anglia, undertaking a diverse programme of engagements, ranging from parades, private functions, dinner nights and concerts. The Band fields a variety of musical ensembles including small brass and woodwind groups; a dance band; and full concert band. The Band’s current strength is 34 musicians from a mixture of backgrounds: serving member of the Royal Air Force, MOD civil servants and civilian musicians from the local community. Following the appointment in 2007 of the Band’s first full-time Voluntary Band Instructor, the Band is currently going from strength-to-strength, leading the Battle of Britain Parade through Bury St Edmunds (see picture on the left)for the first time in many years, as well as supporting the Royal British Legion, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, and Age Concern. The Band has also forged an association with the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band, staging concerts in both Bradford and Bury St Edmunds.
