Final Charity Cheque Presented as Band Plays On
Despite the impending move from RAF Kinloss to RAF Lossiemouth, the RAF Kinloss Voluntary Band continues to raise funds for service charities. The Band will soon take on a new name that reflects its transfer to RAF Lossiemouth when the Kinloss base is handed over to the Army. Drawing membership from serving military personnel at both RAF Kinloss and RAF Lossiemouth, as well as retired personnel, dependants and civilians throughout the Moray community, the Band has always been active in raising funds for both service and civilian charities. Their most recent efforts have resulted in £1,100 being presented this week to the Royal Air Force Association ‘Wings Appeal’, and Help for Heroes. The cash was raised at a concert held recently at Forres Town Hall to celebrate the Band’s 40th Anniversary, and a second performance at Burghead Church. Featuring both of the RAF Kinloss Band’s brass and swing ensembles, the entertainment ranged from military music to classics, with both bands receiving standing ovations at the end of their performances. Funds were raised from ticket sales for both events along with donations from the pubic and a particularly generous cheque from RAF Kinloss.
