Engineering and Logistics Wing
ELW HQ Sqn consists of 30 personnel and 1 civilian, and is responsible for controlling and coordinating the operations of ELW and for allocating engineering resources to support all other units at RAF Waddington in pursuit of ELW’s tasking. The Sqn’s main function is to support Sentry, Sentinel and Nimrod aircraft in all operational roles both at home and abroad. This includes providing a deployable element to deliver the same services to 34 Expeditionary Air Wing, which is tasked with conducting deployed operations at short notice anywhere in the world.
Engineering Records
The Engineering Records section is responsible for the administration and monitoring of all aircraft related engineering work at RAF Waddington. Engineering Records staff act as the liaison point between RAF Waddington and external agencies concerned with the maintenance and modification of aircraft and associated equipment. The section is also responsible for ensuring that all engineering personnel are authorised to carry out their duties.
ELW Adjutant
The ELW Adjutant’s team are responsible for the day-to-day administration of all ELW Service personnel. The key output from this Section is to ensure that all personnel remain qualified to the required standards for all operational scenarios; including co-ordination of RAF fitness, Common Core Force Development and Human Factors training.
Engineering Operations
The Engineering Operations (Eng Ops) role is primarily to be the eyes, ears and voice of OC ELW, prioritising the Wing’s overall output to meet the station flying requirements and the Station Commander's priorities. Eng Ops is also responsible for the control and coordination of all mission critical engineering assets, overseeing the priority logistics demands whilst also resolving any logistics-related problems that may affect the Station’s operational capability.
Visiting Aircraft Handling Section
The Visiting Aircraft Handling Section (VAHS) provide handling and service support to visiting/diverted RAF, foreign military or civilian aircraft, in close liaison with Eng Ops and Air Traffic Control. VAHS provide 'out of hours' cover when requested by Engineering Operations; especially during the very busy period prior to and post the annual RAF Waddington Air Show.
