Logistics Squadron
Logistics Squadron
Logisitics Squadron provides the logistical 'life blood' to RAF Waddington; it is responsible for the provision of all logistical support, both material and professional personnel, to satisfy operational and routine requirements, whether at home or deployed. The Squadron employs approximately 100 Service personnel and 60 civilians. It delivers the Station's over-arching task through the following core functions: Supply, Movements, Mechanical Transport and Travel Cell.
Supply
To enable RAF Waddington to deliver its ISTAR capability to the RAF and NATO, the Station consumes a large and diverse range of material, supplemented by an equally diverse range of services. This material includes aircraft equipment, fuels and lubricants for aircraft and ground vehicles, specialist and non-specialist clothing, domestic and office furniture, stationery as well as a laundry service. The Station's material inventory is valued at circa £150M, all of which is securely stored and accounted. As expected with any large 'consuming' organisation, waste is generated, so the Squadron alos provides a hazardous and non-hazardous waste recycling and disposal facility.
Mechanical Transport and Movements Flight (MT & MF)
MT & MF provide specialist transport and movements support to RAF Waddington. The Flight is responsible for the transportation of personnel and freight to destinations worldwide by Land, Sea and Air in support of operations and exercises. At home they undertake specialist driving tasks on the airfield such as aircraft refuelling, aircraft towing and snow and ice clearance as well as ambulance and crane operations. The unloading and loading of aircraft and the processing of passengers and cargo is undertaken by the Movements Section. Driver training, licensing and road traffic accident investigation for station personnel is also carried out by MT. The Travel Cell is responsible for world wide travel and accommodation bookings for personnel based at RAF Waddington.
Mechanical Transport (MT)
A wide and varied selection of specialist and non-specialist vehicles is required to enable the Station to function effectively. The MT Section manages approximately 300 'white fleet' vehicles such as cars and vans along with approximately 30 'green fleet' specialist vehicle such as aircraft refuelling bowsers, towing tugs, fork lift trucks and cranes. They also provide specialist drivers for the different vehicle types as well as transporting personnel and material, covering circa 1.5 million miles per year, throughout the UK and overseas.
