Tactical Medical Wing
Tactical Medical Wing (TMW), based at RAF Lyneham, provides an Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) service together with Role 1 and 2 medical and dental support to operational theatres. In crisis and war, medical support units will be formed to meet the needs of the fighting force within the Crisis Establishment (CE) of TMW. The majority of TMW units will be shadow-manned. A permanent cadre of TMW HQ staff will be responsible for the following: coordinating medical operational deployments, meeting exercise commitments for Role 1 and 2 medical support, the provision of 24/365 AE cover to HM Forces and other entitled groups, AE and field deployment training for RAF medical and dental personnel together with the management and maintenance of TMW medical and field equipment.
No 4626 (County Of Wiltshire) Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron RAuxAF
The Squadron, based at RAF Lyneham, provides aeromedical evacuation facilities including reception, treatment and the escort of casualties from the combat zone to appropriate hospital accommodation.
No 612 (County of Aberdeen) Squadron RAuxAF
The Squadron, based at RAF Leuchars, provides field surgical support to the Armed Forces in times of conflict or war, and to provide peacetime surgical support to civilian populations in the event of major disaster. The unit has a 25 bed capacity, including 2 intensive treatment beds, and is capable of holding 25 patients for up to 48 hours.
No 1 Air Mobility Wing
No 1 Air Mobility Wing (1 AMW), based at RAF Lyneham, is an ACSSU (Air Combat Service Support Unit) as declared by HQ Strike Command and is a key enabler for the JRRF (Joint Rapid Reaction Force) for the provision of a movements capability for combat support air operations. The Wing is commanded by a Supply Branch (Movements qualified) Wg Cdr who has 3 squadrons under his command, HQ Sqn, 44MAMS and 45MAMS. Both 44 and 45 sqn provide the base air movements capabilities providing 24 hr cover, 7 days a week. They also cover all Mobile Air Movements tasks on a global scale. HQ Sqn contains the Support, Standards and Training Flt, which plays a vital role in maintaining and improving out operational performance as a wing. To meet the Wing’s remit 1 AMW supports RAF Lyneham 24 hours a day every day of the year, and has a fully air mobile, field equipped capability, held on 90 minutes notice for world-wide deployment.
No 4624 (County of Oxford) Movements Squadron RAuxAF
The Squadron, based at RAF Brize Norton, provides Air Transport (Handling) support to allied operations world-wide. Squadron members are trained to be responsible for the safe loading and unloading of passengers and freight to a range of RAF and Civil Charter transport aircraft. The Squadron supports regular RAF movement’s activities anywhere in the world where personnel may be required, usually at main bases but also on smaller detachments.
