Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex and Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Wittering, undertook her inaugural visit to RAF Wittering on Thursday 24 September 2009.
In the morning she presented several honours and awards to personnel and spent some time meeting a cross section of Service men and women and their families. After lunch in the Officers' Mess HRH was driven to Vigo Wood at the western end of the runway. The various Wittering squadrons and units demonstrated the operational role and capabilities of the RAF Logistics Hub. During the proceedings, Her Royal Highness presented 2 new badges to No 3 Mobile Catering Squadron and No 1 Expeditionary Logistics Squadron.
The Queen approved the appointment of The Countess of Wessex as Honorary Air Commodore to RAF Wittering on Thursday 2nd October 2008. Princess Diana was the last Honorary Air Commodore for RAF Wittering and held the title from 1985 to 1995.
