Red 2 – Flight Lieutenant Zane Sennett
Flight Lieutenant Zane Sennett (33) is in his first year with the Red Arrows. Born in Hong Kong, Zane’s interest in aviation was inspired by his father, Brian, a former Royal Air Force and airline pilot.
Zane lived in Hong Kong for 20 years but went to boarding school in the UK at Cranleigh School, near Guildford in Surrey. A member of the school’s Combined Cadet Force, his passion for flying from all his overseas travel plus visits to airshows encouraged Zane to think about a career with the Royal Air Force.
Whilst studying geography at the University of Birmingham, Zane was a member of the University Air Squadron and joined the Royal Air Force in August 1998.
Following his flying training he became a Qualified Flying Instructor on the Hawk at Royal Air Force Valley, before completing weapon training on the Hawk 115 in Canada. Zane was then posted to 1 (F) Squadron at Royal Air Force Cottesmore where he flew the Harrier in the ground attack role.
On this Squadron, Zane completed four operational tours in Afghanistan as part of Operation Herrick , flying missions in support of ground forces. He has been on exercises in the United States, Germany and has operated from aircraft carriers, as well as continuing his role as a frontline Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI).
Currently single and living in Stamford, Lincolnshire, Zane is a keen sportsman, loves rugby, and has a passion for travel. He likes watersports, both above and below sea level, enjoying scuba diving and windsurfing.
