Three survival equipment fitters maintain all elements of the pilots’ safety equipment, from helmet, oxygen mask and anti-g trousers to parachute and life raft.

“Being such a small contingent on RAFAT I never expected the opportunity to work with the team. We are such a close knit unit and working with all the members is a privilege.

My main role is to service and maintain the essential equipment used by the pilots and Circus. We have many visitors to the Red Arrows and one of our other main roles is to fit each of them with the required equipment, which includes helmet, oxygen mask, flying coveralls, leg restraint garters and Life Saving Jackets.

The job keeps us very busy and we also get the chance to travel around with the team providing our support for all of the overseas and UK-based displays. I count myself very lucky to be part of the team and am looking forward to next season already.”
