CAS’s Keynote Address: Air Power in an Age of Uncertainty

We live in an age of uncertainty. Everywhere, the status quo is being challenged, and the assumptions that we’ve used in the past to shape our view of the world have been called into question. Four broad trends are feeding this uncertainty: climate change and its global implications; the increasing multi-polarity of the global distribution of power; the global economic cycle of depression and recovery, set against a backdrop of large population growth, youth unemployment and inequality, especially in the developing world; and finally, the spread of popular uprisings driven by the desire by many populations for a greater say in their governance.
