RAFSPA Phoenix – A Class

The 2009 competition season got off to a good start with 2 RAFSPA teams competing in the first UKSL event. The weather was kind to us for once allowing the full 6 round to be completed shortly after midday Sunday.

The Senior Team, RAFSPA Firefly, had a very close-fought battle in the AA-class. After 6 round only 4 points separated the top 4 teams and Firefly were tied in 3rd place, leading to a jump-off with Team Strangers. Unfortunately Firefly scored 11 to Strangers’ 12 in the extra round and had to settle for 4th place.

The Intermediate Team, RAFSPA Phoenix, had not jumped as a team prior to this competition due to a last minute re-shuffle in the line up but that did not seem to matter. The first jump ended up being a practice anyway as Cameraman Ralph forgot to turn on his camera and the judges kindly granted a re-jump. Camera faffs were responsible for Phoenix having to do 2 more re-jumps throughout the 6 rounds. Phoenix finished in 2nd place and came home with silver medals, a very good start to the season!
