LUAS Sports

The UAS system offers a vast array of sporting opportunities that allows personal and team development whilst providing huge amounts of enjoyment. The wide range of sports available means there will almost certainly be a sport that each squadron member can enjoy. The sporting activities are largely encouraged and financially backed by the UAS which makes it a win-win situation for the students.

Sporting events are good opportunities to meet members of other University Air Squadrons. They give members a chance to develop sporting skills, fitness and team work within the Squadron. From individual matches to complete inter-UAS tournaments, organising sporting events gives students the opportunity to collaborate with members of other Squadrons. Students can also coordinate and participate in more adventurous activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing, sailing, diving and skiing. Students generally organise sporting events and with help from Squadron staff, the yearly inter-squadron competitions.

Fitness Training

To help support and encourage student for the busy programmes of competitions, events and UAS life, there is a weekly training session every Sunday morning at either Edge Hill University or Wyncote. There are also daily fitness sessions during camps. During the sessions all members are expected to participate in a wide variety of sports and activities. On camp, sessions focus on improving both stamina and resilience through a combination of early morning training and ‘Battle PT’.

Throughout the year there are various other sporting activities available to students including climbing walls, Indoor Ski Slopes and fitness classes including Zumba. The aim of all this is to ensure that all students are physically fit for military life whilst instilling team moral and participation.
