Another year of Sporting Success for Yorkshire UAS!
Once again, Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron has proved it’s status as the premier sporting UAS after a catalogue of victories in various sporting arenas. The success started early in the year with a multi-sport tournament against northern rivals NUAS, and a volleyball tournament against EMUAS, LUAS, MASUAS and NUAS. Both events were hosted at the RAF Linton on Ouse station gymnasium and OC YUAS, Sqn Ldr Parkinson was on hand to award the silverware to SiC Sport Off Cdt Gregory on both occasions.
Competition then intensified for the squadron, with inter-UAS tournaments in cross country running, swimming and the infamous ‘super teams' challenge, all three being hosted at RAFC Cranwell. YUAS held their own with sterling efforts on the field, in the pool and in the gym respectively and came away with an impressive hattrick of wins demonstrating that YUAS’ prowess is truly unrivalled, putting the squadron in prime position towards winning the covered CO’s cup later in the year.
Success continued more recently on the football pitches, with a one on one warm up match against EMUAS, as well as against all other squadrons in a five-a-side tournament again hosted at RAFC Cranwell. Despite a strong performance across the morning, the Yorkshire males were eliminated during the semi-finals, however the ladies came away with an impressive victory even after extra time and penalties, with Off Cdt Wood pulling off some amazing saves between the sticks to keep the opposition at bay, and claiming the title for YUAS again.
YUAS would like to thank the sports team and HQ UAS for their organisation and ensuring the smooth running of all events, and to the rival units for their cooperation and sportsmanship during the competitions.
