About Us
Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron
Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron is one of 14 Squadrons around the country that offer undergraduates a chance to challenge themselves and develop their skills through experiencing RAF life in the form of basic flying training, force development and adventurous training. Naturally the hope is that many UAS members will go on to commission as Officers in the RAF, either as aircrew or in one of the many ground branches, however UAS membership carries with it no commitment to join the RAF after graduation.
Members of Yorkshire UAS are enlisted into the RAF Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR) with the rank of Officer Cadet. Upon completion of their first year on Squadron, students are eligible to apply for Student-in-Charge positions, more commonly referred to as SiCs. These roles see students take command of the day-to-day running of various Squadron activities such as Flying, Force Development, Charities or even the Squadron Bar. Every July four students are selected to lead the student body for the following year as the Senior Student team. In September each year these students attend a commissioning course at RAF Cranwell and pass out with the rank of Acting Pilot Officer.
Being on a University Air Squadron gives all students the opportunity to learn how to fly with the best instructors in the world, free of charge. Best of all, however, you will make some of your closest friends.
