Fundraising & Charities

At Yorkshire UAS we pride ourselves on the support that we are able to offer to local charities and, for the year 2011/2012, we will be supporting the following:

• Peter Pan Nursery
• RAF Benevolent Fund
• The Yorkshire Air Ambulance
• Bluebells Children’s Hospice

Our close relationship with our beneficiaries allows us to keep them involved with squadron activities and involve them where possible. Each academic year we invite the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to our Friends and Families day. It is a great opportunity for the force to showcase their fleet to the squadron members that are so keen to support their operations.

This year we will be visiting the local Universities to sell RAF Benevolent Fund charity wristbands. Each month a team of Yorkshire UAS students will sell bands outside various student unions and help raise money whilst spreading the word about all the fantastic work that the fund do.

Every year we invite the children and carers of the Peter Pan Nursery to a Christmas party at RAF Church Fenton. Students get the opportunity to interact with and entertain the children by posing as Santa Claus and various other helpers and get a feel for the just cause that receives their funding. Indeed, not all squadron activities are of a military basis. We also visit hospitals during Easter each year around Yorkshires to give out eggs on paediatric wards. Any opportunity to make such positive contributions like these are grasped with two hands and we always look for new ventures to be supportive.

YUAS wholeheartedly embraces the RAF ethos and, as such, we are always looking for new ways to improve squadron relations and help the local community.
