RAF Benson is home to approximately 2000 Service personnel and Civil Servants, and approximately the same number of dependants and civilian staff.

The Station Commander

Group Captain Hamish Cormack MA RAF

Group Captain Hamish Cormack MA RAF assumed the role of Station Commander and Puma Force Commander at RAF Benson on 11 November 2016.

An experienced helicopter navigator, Group Captain Cormack returns to RAF Benson following a specialised staff tour in the Ministry of Defence. During his career, Group Captain Cormack has seen operational service in numerous areas including Northern Ireland, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan as well as disaster relief in Pakistan. Following a deployment on the Libya operation in 2011, he arrived at RAF Benson to command 230 Squadron, where he saw the final months of service for the Puma Mk1 and the introduction of the significantly enhanced Puma Mk2 helicopters. Hamish assumes command of RAF Benson, and takes on the associated role of Puma Force Commander, following completion of a refresher course to operate Puma Mk2 helicopters.

Honorary Air Marshal

His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent GCVO

His Royal Highness was appointed the Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Benson in 2002, and was promoted to Air Marshal on 1st March 2012.
