As part of a year-long centenary project, the young people worked with Northumbria University’s English department to research newspapers and magazines published more than 100 years ago in the trenches.
Cadet Tiger Wu, 15, said: “We analysed the poem For the Fallen, identified features in magazines and looked at objects from the war so that we could then come up with our own stories, poems, comic script or art work.”
The cadets then created their own work, which was put together in a book to commemorate The Great War.
“We then sent a copy to TRH Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and we got a reply!” said Rebecca Leitch, 16,
In the royal letter, TRH The Duke and Duchess, thanked the cadets for sending them a copy of the book, titled Frontline.
Rebecca said, “It was great to receive the royal letter and we’re really pleased that the book has been enjoyed by those at Kensington Palace.”
