A Welcome to the RAF Chaplains’ Branch Website from
the Venerable Jonathan P M Chaffey QHC BA MA RAF, Chaplain-in-Chief (RAF)

The Mission of the Royal Air Force Chaplains Branch is to serve the RAF Community through: Prayer Presence and Proclamation

RAF Chaplains are at the very heart of their community. Recruited from the main ChinC Chaffey Full Christian Denominations, commissioned chaplains exercise a ministry of prayer, presence, and proclamation on RAF bases at home, overseas and in areas of conflict. They work on behalf of the wider church and with civilian chaplains of other world faiths, whilst being responsibile themselves for the spiritual welfare of all, irrespective of rank or religious background. Chaplains share the physical, mental and spiritual demands of the military profession in order to be with their people, sometimes in danger and far from home, whilst never bearing arms themselves. Fulfillment of the Branch Motto, "To serve and not to be served", may well lead to personal sacrifice and always requires a high sense of calling.

As you surf through this website the stories of individual Chaplains and their life and work will be revealed. This is the story of God’s love in action, and as one airman said to his chaplain, ‘You are here to remind us that there is something better and bigger than us out there – that God loves us’.

I hope you enjoy your encounter with RAF Chaplaincy through this website, and ask simply that you remember us, and the community we serve, in prayer.
