Information about RAF Cosford

Cosford is set in the quiet and beautiful countryside of Shropshire just off junction 3 of the M54. Albrighton is the nearest village (under 2 miles) offering a typical range of small shops, post office, dentist, medical centre and primary schools etc. It would be approximately a 3 minute drive but a good 15-20 minutes walk.

Cosford is a large site split by the A41 with an underpass linking the two. Facilities include swimming pool, gym and fitness centre, Cheeky Monkeys Soft Play area, Coffee Pot, Skate Park and Acorn Childcare Centre (Nursery and Pre-School) all open to Service Personnel and their dependants.

RAF Cosford is home to numerous units/organisations including:

o HQ Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering (DCAE).
o RAF No 1 School of Technical Training (Part of the DCAE).
o No 1 Radio School (Part of the Defence College of Communication and Information Systems (DCCIS)).
o Defence School of Photography (Part of the Defence Intelligence and Security Centre (DISC)).
o RAF School of Physical Training.
o The RAF Museum.

Wolverhampton is approximately 9 miles away and is easily accessible by road, rail and bus, though can take a while during peak times. It has a great range of places to visit, parks and gardens to enjoy, entertainment, nightlife, shops, accommodation, arts and culture and sporting events throughout the year.
Telford is approx 8 miles away and is much quicker to get to by road, rail and bus. It is a New Town, with its famous feature of the Ironbridge.

Shrewsbury is approx 22 miles away, set amidst the glorious Shropshire countryside near to the Welsh Borders and is one of England's finest medieval market towns. The town has over 600 listed buildings including the Castle and the Abbey. The historic centre is a shopper's heaven packed with designer shops, smart new malls and an amazing range of independent retailers.
