Information about RAF Lossiemouth

RAF Lossiemouth is one of the busiest fast-jet station in the Royal Air Force. Based here are 4 flying Squadrons at RAF Lossiemouth -12 Sqn, 14 Sqn, 617 Sqn and XV(R) Sqn plus 51 Sqn RAF Regt, 2622 (Highland) Sqn Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment and ‘D’ Flight 202 (Search & Rescue) Sqn.

Lossiemouth is a popular holiday resort having extensive stretches of sandy beach on either side of the town. It is perhaps best known for being the birthplace of the first Labour Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald. As well as having a Championship Golf Course, Lossiemouth also has excellent sailing and angling facilities.

The Royal Burgh and market town of Elgin is situated 6 miles south of Lossiemouth. This is where the majority of Service Families Accommodation is located. Elgin has many fine amenities, which include the Library, a Leisure Centre with swimming pool/ice rink, and Cooper Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Scotland. . Elgin is the main shopping centre for the area; there are several supermarkets for the weekly shopping trip and a number of large retail shops.
