Nuffield Trust

The Nuffield Trust was founded in 1939 by Lord Nuffield. The object of the charity is to 'promote the welfare and efficiency of the Forces of the Crown either by the provision of facilities for recreation or by any other means'.

The Trust therefore helps to finance recreational and welfare amenities that will benefit serving members of the Armed Forces, but which are not provided by public funds.

Each of the Services is allocated a sum of money from the Nuffield Trust every year, on a pro rata basis. This fund is then administered (in the RAF's case), by RAF Community Support at HQ AIR Command. They are able to allocate up to £12,500 on any single project, as well as forward bids for higher amounts, to the Nuffield Trust Board of Trustees for their consideration.

The point of contact for the Nuffield Trust for the Royal Air Force is Warrant Officer John Leonard, who can be contacted on 95221 5620 or via email at

Full details of the Trust can be found here and the Application Form for funding can be found here .
