Fighter Aircraft Index

This section includes fighter-bombers such as the Typhoon and Tempest and smaller reconnaissance aircraft such as the Mustang. Operation OVERLORD saw many important developments in tactical air operations, the most significant being the introduction of fighter controllers on the ground who directed waiting aircraft such as rocket-equipped Typhoons to attack enemy targets. Today, forward air control is an integral part of close air support operations for many of the world's air forces, not just the RAF.

Mustang : Fighter/reconnaissance
