On 8 May 2001, No. 51 Sqn RAF Regt was reformed at RAF Honington, before moving to its current home at RAF Lossiemouth.
The Sqn’s roots date back to 1941 as No. 713 Defence Sqn, serving in France and Germany during WWII before eventually re-numbering as No. 51 Sqn RAF Regt in 1947.
Disbanded in 1957 and reformed in 1964, they deployed to Zambia, Aden, Muharraq, Salalah, Northern Ireland (14 times) and the Gulf in 1990 before disbanding again in 1993.
Reforming in 2001, the Sqn deployed on 2 tours of Kuwait, 4 of Iraq and 4 of Afghanistan, and has since deployed on 8 Short-Term Training Teams to Nigeria since 2015.
Today, No. 51 Sqn RAF Regt remains as ready and capable as ever to deploy worldwide in support of current operations.
As we mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, we remember with pride our involvement in operations during the liberation of North West Europe in 1945.
