Officer Cadet Danny Burke

Role

My career highlight so far

Having served in excess of 18 years in the RAF, it would be difficult to pick just one moment as the main highlight, but I recently received my Long Service and Good Conduct medal and a Station Commanders Commendation.  For me, this acts as a recognition for the hard work, dedication and experiences I have achieved or gained throughout my career.  In addition to this, I have recently been found suitable to commission as an Engineering Officer (AS).  Due to attend RAF College Cranwell in 2022 to complete Modular Initial Officer Training.

The best thing about my current role

The best thing about my current role is being afforded the opportunity to complete an Engineering Management Foundation Degree at RAF Cosford.  As part of the Basic Entry Scheme, serving personnel that are found suitable can complete the degree as their primary full-time role in preparation for attending a Modular Initial Officer Training Course and subsequent Engineering Officer Branch Training.  One of the most satisfying feelings of this role is knowing that on completion of this training, I will be responsible for a plethora of engineering elements that will support and contribute to the overall mission output of the RAF.

With the recent global pandemic stopping sporting activity, in due course, I will also look forward to returning to competing within the sport of Olympic Luge.
