Wing Commander Manjeet Ghataora

Role

My career highlight so far

Senior Engineering Officer (SEngO) on 99 Squadron at RAF Brize Norton, where I was responsible for ensuring the maintenance and servicing of the UK C-17 fleet. Here I led the Squadron’s Junior Engineering Officers (JEngOs) and the Mechanical & Avionics technicians, both in the UK and when deployed overseas. I had to ensure the Squadron had enough highly trained technicians and that my airworthiness decisions guaranteed we had sufficient safe and serviceable to undertake our operational tasks. These included bringing all our troops and equipment back from Afghanistan, various humanitarian missions and bringing home Ebola patients for treatment!

The best thing about my current role

The best thing about my current role supporting EUFOR in Sarajevo, is that it gives me the chance to work with an amazing mix of people from 20 different countries. Learning about their cultures is fascinating as it is important, but also recognising the similarities between us all has been eye-opening. The role also allows me to develop and expand my knowledge outside of my engineering specialisation; truly supporting the notion of ‘No Ordinary Job’!
