  • Formed as a RAuxAF Regt Sqn in 1982
  • Personnel are recruited from all over southern England.
  • The Sqn has deployed personnel in recent years in support of operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and domestically.


1982 – Formed as 2624 Sqn RAuxAF (County of Oxfordshire) as an RAF Regiment Field Squadron tasked with providing ground defence for RAF Brize Norton.

1998 - The unit became a Role Support Squadron and was tasked to support the Air Refuelling Force based at RAF Brize Norton and RAF Lyneham

2003 – Reformed as 501 Squadron RAuxAF (County of Gloucestershire) 

2013 – Reformed as 2624 Squadron RAuxAF (County of Oxfordshire)
