Akrotiri Ladies Complete Beach Circuits in Recognition of International Women's Day

Women from the RAF Akrotiri community have attended a beach circuits fitness class run by PTIs from the Station gym. The event took place at the Snug Beach and personnel from around the Station attended to support those who were taking part.

The event was open to both civilians and serving personnel and activities included several partner workouts encouraging both teamwork and support.

“It was great to be able to support this fantastic event and allow these ladies to celebrate International Women’s Day with health and well-being. We’re very lucky to have such a fantastic array of facilities to use here at RAF Akrotiri.”

RAF Akrotiri Gym SNCO, Sergeant Greg McHale

The event allowed those involved to show their support for International Women’s Day while representing the Station’s community and its wide variety of backgrounds.

“I think it’s important to hold events like this in order to highlight to the wider community that we as a Station recognise the many issues that can arise and let people know about the support that is available.

As a serving woman in the RAF, and both a wife and a mother, I feel that I can relate to many of the women here at Akrotiri and wanted to bring us all together in a moment of equality.

Today was all about celebrating the women we have here at RAF Akrotiri. It was amazing to see these ladies come together for a bit of fun and represent the vast community of females we have on this camp. Whether they are civilian or serving personnel, wives or partners, or even extended family members. We all came together as equals.”

Event Organiser, Sergeant Helen Grant

Following the Circuits all of those involved, including the PTIs, took a dip in the sea as a final challenge before enjoying a hot drink together.
