RAF Akrotiri Gym gets back to business

RAF Akrotiri’s Gymnasium has re-opened under new control measures following the Coronavirus outbreak.

As the lockdown restrictions have lifted and the Sovereign Base Area Administration has been working closely with the Republic of Cyprus to establish a gradual return to normality, the Gym staff have been able to re-open the facility to the community. Beginning by opening to only service personnel, the staff implemented a safe and successful re-opening, and within two days were able to open to everyone on the Station.

The Gym’s SNCO, Sergeant Greg McHale said, “It’s great to see the Gym re-opening, and once again return to providing an excellent fitness facility to the community. The staff here are delighted.”

The facility has also begun hosting charitable events, starting with the RAFA Ride, where members of the Akrotiri community took part in instructor-led spinning sessions. Sergeant McHale continued, “Hosting events like the RAFA Ride is another step in the right direction. We’re really looking forward to hosting more events in the future, as well as progressing with the re-opening of the facility as a whole.”

More details about the Gym’s revised opening times can be found on the ‘Akrotiri Gym’ Facebook page.
