Spring Nursery is located next to RAF Scampton and caters for children up to 11 years old.  Before and after school, and holiday club available for 4 to 11 years old.

Community Development Officer

The Community Development Officer at RAF Scampton is Gill Angel.  Gill is responsible to the Station Commander for the development of community support provision, services and facilities for the RAF community, serving personnel, families, children and young people. Liaison with external agencies and organisations is also important when engaging support for and understanding of the needs of the RAF community.

Gill Angel also acts as the Station’s Armed Forces Community Covenant Champion and supports military families with local school appeals.  Gill also manages the work experience programme on Station.

The SCSO works from the Barnes Wallis Community Centre, Monday to Thursday, 7:30am to 4:30am, and Friday, 7:30am to 4pm.

Family contact and temporary accommodation

There are two houses which RAF personnel can use.  This can be for emergency family accommodation visits from children of divorced or separated personnel, weekend and school holiday visits from family members, and temporary accommodation when moving into or out of permanent service families accommodation.

Only RAF personnel can make bookings.

Health and welfare

Medical centre

The Medical Centre on the Station is for RAF personnel only. Dependants of personnel should register with a local GP. 

Dental centre

Dental Centre facilities are based at RAF Waddington and is for RAF personnel only.  Dependants of personnel should register with a local dentist.


The MoD has contracted SSAFA to provide the RAF with a Personal Support and Social Work Service in the UK. We provide a professionally qualified Personal Support and Social Work service throughout the UK to all serving personnel (regular and reserves), and their family.

Our service is independent from the Chain of Command. With your consent, we work alongside RAF Command and within the RAF community. It is our service’s aim to support you to maintain family stability, enhance personal welfare and empower you to independently access the support systems and networks you are entitled to.

How we can help

Our team provide professional welfare and Social Work support to serving personnel and the RAF community. We maintain links with Local Authority Social Services staff and other civilian welfare-related organisations to help you get resolution to your issues.

The support may be listening and talking with you about your options, signposting you to the right help or giving 1:1 support through a process.

Station gym

The gym has a fitness suite and classes.

You can join the station gym if you are a dependant of a member of RAF personnel but you will need to ask your spouse or partner to apply for RAF ID if you want to use the gym and sports facilities unaccompanied by RAF personnel.

Barnes Wallis Community Centre

The Community Centre has regular activities, including: pre-school groups, various events and courses. 

You'll need to ask your spouse or partner to apply for RAF ID for you if you want to use the Community Centre unaccompanied by RAF personnel. 

You can also hire the function room for parties.

JJ's Coffee Shop

Children’s and young people’s activities and clubs on the station are run by Airplay

Other facilities

RAF Scampton Heritage Centre

Scampton also plays host to The RAF Scampton Heritage Centre, a small museum that acknowledges the Stations historical past, with exhibitions covering the famous 2Dambuster" Raids, our First and Second World War heritage and all aspects of service activity from the 1960's to date.

The Centre is run by a small team of volunteers and opens most weekdays all year round. Tours usually run between 1100 - 1500 although other times and occasional weekend visits may be possible. You will be escorted throughout your time on site and will enjoy a bespoke guided tour that can last for a couple of hours.
