Wyton History

The Armed Forces

The Royal Navy, the British Army and the Royal Air Force have a long and interesting history - take a look at their websites below.

Royal Air Force Wyton

The area around Wyton has been associated with aviation since 1912 with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) arriving in 1916. When the Royal Air Force (RAF) was formed Wyton continued to train units for overseas operations as it had done previously for the RFC.

The Station has fulfilled many roles from that period to today and on 2nd April 2012 the newly formed Joint Forces Command (JFC) took Command responsibility for RAF Wyton.

However, this is just the latest chapter in our history. For further information on the the rich history shared by RAF Brampton and RAF Wyton and for an insight into the history of the Pathfinder Force, click on the links to the left of this page.
