Base Support Wing

Base Support Wing encompasses a wide range of personnel, welfare, facilities management and security services on the Station and includes medical, dental and chaplaincy services.

The Wing's Mission is to provide integrated and essential administrative, police, security and specialist support to deployed operations and RAF Brize Norton to enable the generation of air power. The Wing has a vision to be 'A Base Support Wing for the 21st Century'.

Force Development Squadron

Force Development Squadron is responsible for developing the Force through robust and relevant training, and education, in order to prepare our people for operations. The Squadron is broken down into 6 core areas:

  • Force Protection Training Flight.
  • Physical Education Flight.
  • Training Development Flight.
  • Force Development Flight.
  • Learning Centre
  • SERE (Survive, Evade, Resist and Extract) Training Flight.

The development of knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to prepare personnel for deployed operations is the Squadron’s core business and is driven by the Chief of the Air Staff’s desire for us to be war fighting specialists.

Force Development Squadron aims to support the Station Commander's priorities through effective and efficient training of our people. The engagement of our personnel in the activities we offer will not only give them the opportunities to develop and expand their own skills but will prepare them well for the challenges faced on deployed operations.

Personnel Management Squadron

Administrative Wing HQ Personnel Management Squadron is responsible for all aspects of personnel administration for Service personnel, including pay, careers, legal matters and welfare. The Squadron also co-ordinates all community support activities for the Station and is also the focal point for liaison with Defence Estates Housing Directorate. Squadron personnel are well versed in all aspects of personnel support and are always happy to answer any concerns or queries from all Station personnel either in person or by telephone.

Station Services Squadron

Barrack block Station Services Squadron is responsible for all estate management issues, together with overseeing discipline and accommodation. Works Services Flight is responsible for the processing of all routine and response maintenance and planned works on the Station's buildings and associated infrastructure (except communications systems) and is supported by Royal Engineers. The Station Adjutant's Flight covers a variety of roles including discipline, accommodation, registry services, typing services and reprographics.

Security Squadron

Security Squadron comprises RAF Police and Security Flight, and is responsible for providing police and security for RAF Brize Norton.

RAF police dog in action The RAF Police and Security Flight offers a wide range of services. Specialist staff are available to provide advice on Counter Intelligence, Crime Prevention, Counter Terrorist and Computer Security matters. RAF Brize Norton also has a resident Ministry of Defence Policeman, who is able to offer specialist advice on civil police matters. The Flight is manned 24 hours to provide advice and assistance. The Flight also mans, in conjunction with the Ministry of Defence Police, a Community Police Station in the centre of the families quarters area.

Brize Catering Squadron

Junior Rank's Mess Brize Catering Squadron comprises a mix of Service and civilian personnel, commanded by a civilian Catering Manager with an RAF Catering Officer as the deputy. It is responsible for the Officers' Mess, the WO's & Sergeants' Messes and the Junior Ranks' Mess.

David Stone Medical Centre

David Stone Medical Centre The David Stone Medical Centre was officially opened in March 1999 and is close to the main Station entrance. The David Stone Medical Centre is manned 24 hours daily, all year round to support flying operations at RAF Brize Norton.

The Primary Health Care Team provides Primary, Occupational Health and Emergency Care to the practice population (Service personnel and their families) and provides emergency care to entitled civilian personnel working on the Station.

The David Stone Medical Centre provides a large selection of services, including General Practice, Nursing Care, Physiotherapy, Dispensary, Midwifery and Chiropody. Dental Centre

Dentist in action The Dental Centre at RAF Brize Norton is part of the Defence Dental Agency, a tri-Service organisation tasked with providing all routine dental treatment to Service personnel and entitled civilians.

Our objectives are to meet all your dental needs, ensuring that you get the best possible treatment and care. This will ensure that not only will you fulfil your military duties at home and abroad, but will provide you with the basis to keep your teeth and gums healthy for life.

Environmental Protection and Utilities Management

Environmental protection The Station Energy Manager and Environmental Protection Officer provides specialist technical and administrative advice for the Station on all aspects of environmental and energy management. Areas of responsibility include implementing and maintaining the Station's Environmental Management System, monitoring the consumption of non-operational energy, maintaining the Station's energy budgets, responding to environmental incidents, conducting environmental and energy audits, liasing with the Environment Agency and Local Authority and arranging relevant environmental and energy management training for Station personnel.
