Officer in Charge of Operations, Squadron Leader Andy Smith and his Executive Officer, Flight Lieutenant Colin Bell linked up live with over 200 excited members of the public for the Tim Peake Party at the Space Centre in Leicester. Using SKYPE, the two space experts explained the importance of the work carried out at RAF Fylingdales in particular space surveillance and the tracking of the Soyuz capsule as it docked with the ISS.

The party atmosphere at the Space Centre could be heard all the way up to the North Yorkshire Moors as Andy answered a series of questions from an enthusiastic audience that had just witnessed the launch of the Soyuz rocket live from Kazakhstan.

Andy said: This has been a wonderful experience, watching the launch and being able to explain to the public that our radar will track Tims incredible journey. This event has really caught the imagination of the public.

The host of the party at the Space Centre, Rob Copeland said: The electric atmosphere at the Centre was incredible, really appreciate RAF Fylingdales joining us live.
