2622 squadron members on patrol

2622 (Highland) Squadron

2622 (Highland) Squadron

2622 (Highland) Squadron is based at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray and recruits from a wide area. Our part-time Gunners are aged between 18 to 54 and come from all walks of life, including students, teachers, tradesmen, labourers, retail workers, office personnel, self-employed, unemployed, and ex-service personnel.

Did You Know?

Regiment Gunners are the infantry fighting soldiers of the RAF, similar to the Royal Marines and their relationship to the Royal Navy.

Joining the Sqn

Those who progress through the application process can look forward to joining a first class team and start their military training with a few weekends of general service knowledge (GSK), physical training, drill and getting to know a bit about the Squadron and the military prior to attending one of the initial 2 week basic recruit training (BRT) courses conducted at RAF Halton, London.

Further Training

Following a BRT Course you would then attend 2622 (Highland) Squadron on a monthly basis for continuation training where you will learn many new skills. Those who live some distance away often stay overnight in our accommodation facility during a training weekend although this is not mandatory.

Opportunities on the Squadron

As a member of the Squadron you will also have the opportunity to participate in many other activities, such as shooting and military skills competitions both in the UK and abroad, adventure training, formal parades and also get involved with the social side of being a Gunner in the Highland Squadron.

Extra Incentives

After joining us you will be paid for every day of training on the Squadron, and any service with regular forces if you are mobilized. The rates of pay increase at completion of basic training, and annually after the minimum of 2 years, and on further promotion through the ranks.

We will also provide a travel allowance that varies depending on the distance you have to travel. Not only will you be paid for your days, and travel, but if you meet the required 27 days a year, you will qualify for a substantial tax free bounty that increases dramatically in the first few years.

(Please call us on 01343 810776 tofind out what the current rates of pay, and bounty are.)

In addition to financial incentives, being a Reservist will give you access to the modern Gymnasium, and excellent sport & leisure facilities within RAF Lossiemouth.

Becoming a Reservist is a great opportunity to be part of the Military while keeping your civilian role. Many of our Gunners joined in their 20s and 40s just to do something different and experience a challenge, while some of our younger members have gone on to become regulars in the RAF, the Army and the Royal Marines after spending a year or two in the Squadron.
