About us

RAF Lossiemouth Station Crest Welcome to RAF Lossiemouth, one of the largest and busiest fast-jet bases in the Royal Air Force.

TThe primary role of RAF Lossiemouth is to provide QuickReaction Alert (Interceptor) North. QRA is the Royal Air Force’s front linedefence of the UK 365 days a year. RAF Lossiemouth became a Typhoon mainoperating base in summer 2014 and is now home to three front line squadrons. 6Squadron and 1(Fighter) Squadron relocated to the Station in June and September2014 respectively; they were followed by II(AC) Squadron in early 2015.

RAF Lossiemouth is also home to 5 Force ProtectionWing Headquarters, comprising No.s 51 Squadron RAF Regiment and 2622 SquadronRoyal Auxiliary Air Force.

The Station is large and very busy and althoughnewcomers can be assured of a warm reception, the sheer size of the Station andthe widely dispersed families’ estate can appear daunting to those who have notlived and worked here before. RAF Lossiemouth’s ability to generate andmaintain an efficient and effective operational capability is dependent on thecontribution of all service, MoD civilian and contractor personnel workingtogether as a cohesive team. To that end, all personnel are encouraged to taketime to enjoy the plethora of sporting and leisure activities available both onthe Station and in the surrounding areas. Outdoor pursuits are particularlywell catered for, including: golf, fishing, skiing, hill-walking andmountaineering to name a few.
