County of Norfolk Reservists complete the Grand East Anglia Run

On Sunday 1 May, a team of 8 Reservists from 2620 Squadron took part in the Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR). The race, now in its 6th year, takes runners on a super flat and fast 10 Km loop on the roads and paths through the centre of King’s Lynn. With just under 2000 entries in this years’ race, the County of Norfolk Squadron’s team joined runners from all over the country at the start line, but unlike most who were dressed in shorts and running shoes, the Squadron team wore CS95 and combat boots!

The sunshine and cool breeze proved ideal for runners and spectators alike and record numbers lined the streets, paths and front gardens, making for a real carnival atmosphere that did much to motivate even the most tired of legs! Running from the town centre, out onto the water front and then through the green parkland of the walks, the 2620 Squadron team crossed the finish line in the Historic Tuesday Market Place in a respectable 56 minutes.

In addition to the obvious benefits that come with planning, training and completing an event like the GEAR, 2620 Squadron also managed to raise over £600 for local charity ‘Scotty’s Little Soldiers’. The Walpole based charity was set up by Nichola Scott in memory of her husband Lee who was killed in Afghanistan. The charity is dedicated to supporting the children of men and women killed in action while serving with the British Armed Forces, providing treats, trips and respite from the daily ups and downs faced by children who are trying to cope with the loss of a parent.

Thank you to all those who have supported and sponsored the 2620 Squadron runners in raising such a big sum of money for this inspirational local charity.
