As the Station Commander of Royal Air Force Marham I am responsible for the effective implementation of all aspects of equal opportunities on this Station. I am fully committed to equal opportunities and all personnel on this Station have a responsibility to ensure that their work place is free from discrimination; this responsibility is to be exercised through the command chain.

I wholeheartedly support the principle of equal opportunities in employment and oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination to Service and civilian personnel on the grounds of colour, race, ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. The treatment of individuals in accordance with the Equal Opportunities Policy is an essential element in good leadership and is crucial to enhancing team cohesion and improving combat effectiveness. To be successful in meeting our operational requirements all personnel must be confident that they will treated fairly and with dignity and respect in their working environment. Decisions on recruitment, selection, training, career development and promotion will be based solely on objective and justifiable criteria. Discrimination and harassment stem from prejudice and both are unacceptable forms of behaviour which will not be tolerated.

The Equal Opportunities Policy is to be implemented on this unit through the Equal Opportunities Action Plan. The Plan clearly identifies specific responsibilities and targets which are to be met, and each of you has a vital role to play in its implementation. I am advised on equal opportunities matters by the Station Equal Opportunities Advisor (Officer Commanding Personnel Management Squadron) who is also to provide advice to Station personnel and is responsible for co-ordinating equal opportunities training. Equal opportunities is essential to the effective operation of this Station and it is the responsibility of all personnel to ensure that unacceptable behaviour is eradicated.
