2620 Squadron Present Cheque To Scotty’s Little Soldiers

On Wednesday 13 July, Reservists from 2620 (County of Norfolk) Squadron met with the founders of the charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers at RAF Marham to hand over a cheque for £812-00. The Squadron raised the money through sponsorship of their team entry in this year’s Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR) with much of the money generously donated by RAF Marham’s service community. Corporal Brenden Plane, 2620 Squadron’s GEAR Team coordinator, presented the cheque to Nichola Scott who setup the charity named in honour of her husband, Corporal Lee ‘Scotty’ Scott, who was killed on operations in 2009.

Nichola who attended the presentation along with her children Kai and Brooke and her brother Stuart Robinson said ‘We are extremely grateful for the money 2620 Squadron have raised, all of which will go to supporting the charities main cause, providing treats for children coping with the loss of a parent. Last week the charity paid for two girls to meet the band JLS after seeing them in concert at Winchester and since the charity was launched in August last year, we’ve raised £60,000 towards our target of £450,000 which will allow us to buy 3 fully equipped holiday homes. It’s great to visit Marham today as we work with all 3 services and receiving support from the base is a local connection that means alot to me as I grew up and got married in King’s Lynn.’

With the recent re-launch of their website, the charity has made a significant step forward with all of the Scotty’s Little Soldiers merchandise now available to buy online. Both Nichola and Stuart have a busy summer ahead of them with fundraising events throughout the region culminating with Nichola completing a sponsored parachute jump on the charities first anniversary in August; something she doesn’t want to think about at the moment!
