What is Judo?
Judo, meaning "gentle way", is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport, that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the object is to either throw one's opponent to his or her back, immobilize or otherwise subdue one's opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking the elbow or by applying a hold. Judo is many things to different people. It is a fun sport, an art, a discipline, a recreational or social activity, a fitness program, a means of self-defence or combat, and a way of life. It is actually all of these and more.

Marham Judo Club
Marham Judo Club has been recently formed to give Service and civilian families an opportunity to engage in this fascinating martial art within their local environment. Our fully trained and qualified team of black belt and high grade instructors cater for all levels and abilities. All subscription fees paid by members are fed directly back into the Club, to provide better facilities and greater opportunities for all concerned.

As in all sports, Judo has a strict set of rules that governs competition and ensures safety. For those who want to test their skills, Judo offers the opportunity for competition at all skill levels, from club to national tournaments, to the Olympic Games. There are separate weight divisions for men and women, and boys and girls.

Regular training sessions are held from absolute beginners through to Black Belt standard, and as such, all levels of age and ability are most welcome. For beginners: no special clothing is required – just come along in tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt (for comfort). Come along and try it out for yourself!
