Sailing (Offshore) Club

RAF Marham Sailing Club (Off-Shore)
RAF Marham has an enthusiastic band of offshore sailors who have tasted the call of the open sea and are hungry for more. Under the auspices of the Adventure Training Scheme, RAF personnel are given a golden opportunity to enjoy the pleasures and torments of a cruise on a well-found yacht, the services of an experienced skipper and mate, during duty time and at minimal expense. The intention of Adventure Sail Training is to broaden individual horizons, expose people to the thrill and excitement of tackling natural elements and to teach the need for teamwork in an environment where your life really is in the hands of your fellow crew members.

This year, the Station has bid for one Victoria 34 yacht from the Joint Services Adventure Sail Training Centre (JSASTC) in Gosport to mount expeditions from 31 July to 6 August. Plans are also afoot for an expedition to the Baltic Sea. Starting from Kiel in Germany, this expedition will be visiting some of the beautiful Danish islands that lie scattered throughout this wonderful area that seems to have been purpose-built for sailors. As this deployment is still In the planning stage, the expedition dates have yet to be confirmed.

You don't have to be an old salt to join in. In fact, novices are particularly welcome and can be assured of a week full of intensive training and vigorous sailing, interspersed with the odd jar or two in some out of the way hostelry.

If the idea of joining one of the above expeditions takes your fancy or would like to find out a few more details about the range of courses and activities in the offshore sailing calendar, just pick up the phone and give me a call. You won't regret it!
