Waterskiing Club

RAF Marham Waterskiing Club
The RAF East Midlands Units Water-ski Club offers the facilities to try out various sports such as waterskiing, wakeboarding, mono skiing and knee boarding.

Situated at Tallington Lakes, near Stamford, the club owns a static caravan and a X7 MasterCraft Speedboat. All equipment such as skis, boards and wetsuits are available to borrow for all shapes and sizes. Any individuals who have never tried these exciting sports before are invited to pay a visit and have a go. The club opens for weekends, section days and if the interest is high, weeknights.

The Marham Water Ski Club had fallen into disuse over the last couple of years but this year should see its return to Pentney Lakes, just 3 miles north of Marham. The result on a bid for a new boat should be known by late April with skiing taking place, hopefully by the end of May. The club is aimed at all levels of experience and will cater for absolute beginners with all kit being provided. It is also hoped to be able to offer section/corporate days once the club is established. The season will run from April through to October with skiing taking place most weekends and weekday evenings during the summer months (weather permitting).

The cost of joining is yet to be finalised but is hoped to be in the region of £65/single membership and £100/family membership. A ski tow of 15 min will be about £3.50 for members and £7 for guests. Although these figures may seem high they should be compared to a civilian club which may charge in excess of £200 to join and £10 a tow. Beginners will be able to guest ski for a short period before being invited to join the Club.

Each September the RAF Waterski Championships are held at The National Watersports Centre at Nottingham. The weeklong tournament is as much about training and coaching as it is competition. This excellent facility, where the national squad trains, will be booked from time to time for the Club.

To maintain a core of enthusiasts and spread the cost of running the club, it is intended to establish a tri-station club with RAF Honington and RAF Coltishall in the near future.

Please contact the Station OIC, SAC Richie Lovett on RAF Marham Ext 3047 for any further information.
