2016 saw the formation of The Band of The Royal Auxiliary Air Force, with the first Attestation taking place at the Bands new headquarters at RAFC Cranwell. This was an historical event for Royal Air Force Music Services with the intention to support the Regular Royal Air Force Bands, in order to ensure maximum operationally flexibility in support of the Royal Air Force engagement strategy.

During 2016 the reserve musicians were utilised in support of the Central Band whilst undertaking a tour of Cyprus and provided personnel in support of The Band of the Royal Air Force College through events such as the Armed Forces Day parades and various Royal Air Force Association concerts. In addition they are currently taking part in the Charitable Trust Enterprise ‘Royal Air Force in Concert’ tour, performing at some of the finest venues throughout the United Kingdom including Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

In October the Woodwind Ensemble of The Band of The Royal Auxiliary Air Force undertook its first independent engagement at Royal Air Force Digby, in support of a Dining in Night attended by the Chief of Defence staff, Air Chief Marshall Sir Stuart Peach GBE KCB ADC DL and other military dignitaries.

The Headquarters staff of The Band of The Royal Auxiliary Air Force continues, to provide the support and experience to attract and recruit Part Time Volunteer Reserve Musicians into the Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
