Welcome to RAF Scampton

RAFAT Formation with Station Crests
RAF Scampton Crest Stn Crd

A very warm welcome to the RAF Scampton Website.

RAF Scampton has a long and proud history as an operational Station and the current activities of its personnel certainly match those of their predecessors.

The Station acts as parent organisation to 3 resident units, namely the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (RAFAT), No 1 Air Control Centre (1ACC) and the Mobile Meteorological Unit (MMU). As independent units each have a specific mission to fulfill, which when taken together result in the delivery of a significant defence diplomacy and operational output for this station.

The key mission of 1ACC is to provide Air Command and Control in direct defence of the United Kingdom’s airspace. Moreover, No 1 ACC also possesses the ability to deploy that capability, at short notice, in order to provide this service anywhere in the world.

Of course a more visible demonstration of our presence in Lincolnshire is that of RAFAT, or as they are more commonly known the ‘Red Arrows’. RAF Scampton is proud to serve as home of this world-famous aerobatic team and their commitment to excellence in the air, which is why they make such vital use of the surrounding airspace in their preparations for their annual Display Season.

Finally, we are also home to the majority of the RAF MMU, a Reserve Force Unit whose role is to provide crucial meteorological (weather) services to our Armed Forces personnel when serving on deployed operations throughout the world.

For those of you who are to be posted to the Station, may I wish you a most enjoyable tour at this historic base located just a little north of the equally historic city of Lincoln, whilst for those just visiting the site please feel free to explore further and learn more of what happens at RAF Scampton and also of our proud place within the local community.
